What Excavation Involves
Excavation is the dirt work that happens before anything gets built. We dig, move, and shape the ground so the footing, slab, pipe, or pool that follows sits on solid material at the right elevation.
We have dug everything from small residential footings to large commercial building pads across Coastal Georgia. Sandy soil, gray clay, high water table, roots left over from a clearing job. We have run into all of it around here and we plan the dig around what is actually in the ground.
When You Need Excavation
- You are building a house, shop, addition, or commercial pad and need footings dug to plan.
- A utility line, septic line, or water line has to go in and the trench needs to be cut clean and to depth.
- Water is standing in the yard and the ground has to be cut and reshaped to drain.
- You bought raw land and the building spot has to be dug out and brought to grade.
- A pond, swale, or drainage basin needs to be dug and shaped.

How We Handle the Job

Walk the site
We look at access, soil, slope, and where spoil can go before we quote anything.

Locate utilities
Lines get called in and marked. Nobody digs until the site is clear.

Dig to grade
We cut to the elevation on the plan and check it as we go, not after.

Haul or stockpile
Extra material either gets stockpiled on site for backfill or hauled off.

Clean finish
We leave the pad and the surrounding yard in shape for the next trade.

Why Experience Matters Here
A dig that is off by a few inches costs somebody money later. Concrete guys have to add fill, plumbers have to redo pipe, and inspectors send you back. We shoot grade as we dig so the hole is right when we pull out.
Knowing when to undercut soft material instead of building on top of it is the difference between a slab that holds and a slab that cracks. That call comes from years of digging in this soil, not from a book.
Excavation Questions We Get Asked
How deep can you dig on a residential lot?
Most residential footing and utility work runs two to eight feet deep. We can go deeper with the full size excavator when the site allows for it and the walls can be laid back safely.
Do you handle the dirt that comes out of the hole?
Yes. We either stockpile it on site if you want it for backfill or fill, or we load it out with our own trucks. Haul off gets priced into the estimate so there is no surprise.
Will my yard be torn up when you are finished?
There will be track marks and disturbed ground where we worked, that is unavoidable. We grade the disturbed area smooth and leave it ready for sod, seed, or the next contractor.
Can you dig if the water table is high?
Usually yes. In parts of Liberty and Chatham County we hit water shallow, so we plan the dig for the dry part of the day, pump when we have to, and bring in stone or dry fill where the bottom will not hold.
